Un tempo inafferrabile, ambiguo, sospeso tra la sensazione di essere stato già vissuto, verificato e non, che gira senza pietà su se stesso, avanti e poi indietro. Il calcolo degli anelli, lasciati cadere come dadi, non torna…
Il tempo, come un filo s’addipana, si avvolge su se stesso, modificando la propria struttura lineare: ora nega alla vista entrambe le sue estremità, ora un capo ora l’altro, forse trattenuti futilmente. Infine il tempo si ricrea all'indietro.

E. Montale “The Shorewatcher's House”

An elusive moment of time, ambiguous, suspended between the sensation of having already experienced it, true or not, turning without pity on itself, forward and then backward.
Calculating the rings, thrown like dice, just does not work.
Time, like a skein of wool, untangles itself and winds itself up into a ball, modifying its linear structure: now it hides both its ends, now one end, now the other, perhaps held back uselessly.
Finally time recreates itself backwards.
