Quando, in collaborazione con GAI and ANCI, abbiamo condiviso il cammino di "Italia Creativa", il nostro obiettivo comune era promuovere la creatività giovanile italiana, offrendo a tanti giovani la possibilità di mettere in gioco su un palcoscenico d'eccezione tutto il loro talento.
La splendida vetrina offerta dal progetto Gemine Muse a tante giovani promesse tricolori ha rappresentato un veicolo di diffusione importantissimo per le idee e la forza visionaria di quel Made in Italy giovane che vince, convince e si rinnova.
Sono convinta che l'immenso patrimonio rappresentato dalle giovani idee e dall'entusiasmo sconfinato con il quale ragazze e ragazzi italiani lottano quotidianamente per realizzarle possa rivelarsi la più efficace tra le armi per rilanciare la ripresa economica e garantire un solido futuro alla gioventù della Nazione.
Per questo possiamo dirci soddisfatti per come Gemine Muse sia riuscito a portare tanti giovani artisti emergenti italiani fuori dai loro atelier per offrirli agli occhi del grande pubblico, sulle piazze delle più grandi città italiane, e dare finalmente loro un'occasione concreta per mostrare il loro talento. Ma da questa esperienza è scaturita anche una grande occasione di confronto dei giovani artisti di oggi, e già proiettati nel domani, con le opere immortali dei grandi maestri del passato: il passato educa, il presente ricrea, dando vita al futuro.
Il nostro è un bilancio estremamente positivo, che ci conforta sull'ottimo stato di salute della giovane creatività italiana, ci dice che abbiamo intrapreso la strada giusta, e ci esorta a incrementare ancora gli sforzi per garantire alla meglio gioventù della nostra Nazione l'occasione di affermarsi tanto nel panorama italiano quanto in quello internazionale.

When, in collaboration with GAI and ANCI, we shared in the process of "Italia Creativa", Creative Italy, our common goal was to promote the creativity of young Italian artists, offering a great number of young people the chance to call upon an exceptional stage and to let all of their talent shine.
The magnificent showcase offered by the Gemine Muse project to many promising young Italian artists represents a very important vehicle for the dissemination of the winning, persuasive and constantly innovative ideas and visionary force of a young generation "Made in Italy".
I am convinced that the great heritage represented by the fresh ideas of young Italian men and women and the unlimited enthusiasm with which they struggle to realise them, will turn out to be some of the most effective instruments for launching a new positive economic phase and guaranteeing a solid future for the country's young people.
For this reason we can say that we are very satisfied with the way that Gemine Muse has been able to bring many emerging young Italian artists out of their studios and into the general public, in the squares of the largest Italian cities, and to give them, finally, a concrete chance to show what they can do. But this experience also provides an important opportunity for the young artists of today, already projected into the future, to measure themselves against the immortal works of the great masters of the past: the past educates, the present recreates, bringing the future to life.
The outcome of our project is an extremely positive one, one which reassures us that the creativity of Italian young people enjoy excellent health, tells us that we have set off on the right road, and exhorts us to increase our efforts to provide the best possible guarantee that the young people of our country will have an occasion to establish themselves on the Italian as well as the international scene.

I Comuni italiani, con la loro storia, la loro arte e i loro spazi urbani, accolgono anche quest'anno i giovani artisti e le loro opere.
Con questo spirito la Commissione Nazionale Politiche Giovanili dell'Anci, che riunisce 107 Assessori alle Politiche Giovanili e che mi onoro di presiedere, ha approvato con entusiasmo il progetto Italia Creativa, di cui fa parte Gemine Muse, che ci vede impegnati come Associazione Nazionale Comuni Italiani, insieme a GAI, nella collaborazione con il Dipartimento della Gioventù della Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri.
Gemine Muse conferma con questa edizione di essere un appuntamento importante per i giovani artisti, ma anche per i musei e i luoghi cittadini che ospitano le mostre, le performance, gli spettacoli. È un rapporto diretto tra i giovani e l'architettura della città che contribuisce alla scoperta, da nuovi punti di osservazione, dei Comuni italiani.
L'adesione dell'Anci ad Italia Creativa, ove svolge un ruolo di coordinamento, testimonia di questi molteplici obiettivi, nell'ambito della sua attività per politiche giovanili nelle nostre città.
L'Anci continuerà in questa direzione, convinta che il legame tra i giovani e l'arte possa contribuire a rafforzare nei nostri Comuni il rapporto tra la comunità cittadina e la propria storia e a confermare il ruolo di luoghi privilegiati per l'espressione della creatività artistica.

Italian cities, with their history, their art, and their urban spaces, once again this year host young artists and their works.
It is in this spirit that the National Commission of Youth Policies of the National Association of Italian Cities (ANCI), which brings together 107 city councillors for youth policies, and of which I am honoured to be President, has enthusiastically approved the project entitled "Italia Creativa", of which Gemine Muse is a part, and to which the ANCI, together with the GAI are committed, in collaboration with the Department for Youth of the Cabinet of the Italian Prime Minister.
With this edition, Gemine Muse confirms its role as an important appointment not only for young artists, but for museums and other places in the cities that host the exhibitions, performances, and other events as well. It creates a direct relationship between young people and the architecture of the cities, contributing to the discovery of Italian cities from new points of view.
The participation of ANCI in Italia Creativa, where its role is one of coordination, testifies to these multiple objectives, in the context of its activities on the behalf of young people in our cities.
ANCI will continue to pursue this direction, in the conviction that the ties between young people and art can contribute to strengthening the relationships between citizens and their history in our cities, and to confirming the role of privileged places in the expression of artistic creativity.

Parlare oggi di Gemine Muse vuol dire porre l'attenzione su una manifestazione ormai consolidata e nota al pubblico.
La formula è di successo: creare un dialogo tra i giovani artisti e i luoghi più importanti della storia dell'arte del nostro Paese, attraverso il coinvolgimento di critici in grado di realizzare un attento lavoro di talent scouting e la contestuale messa in rete di città italiane che investono nella ricerca dei linguaggi contemporanei manifestando, al contempo, sensibilità alla valorizzazione del passato che si apre a sguardi nuovi senza temere azioni di rinnovamento.
Le produzioni si inseriscono e interagiscono con le situazioni più svariate, cercando il confronto e creando stimolanti suggestioni agli spettatori certamente contagiati dall'energia creativa messa in campo.
Se si potessero percorrere tutti i luoghi che costituiscono le tappe di Gemine Muse, si avrebbe una visione inedita dell'immenso patrimonio culturale italiano: un viaggio tra musei, architetture, opere di grandi maestri sapientemente in colloquio con gli attuali e più interessanti fenomeni espressivi.
Il valore dei partner istituzionali e privati coinvolti è un segno della qualità di questa iniziativa a testimonianza della volontà di guardare al presente e, senza alcun timore, al futuro.

Speaking of Gemine Muse today means focussing attention on an event that is by now established and well known to the public.
The formula is a successful one: the creation of a dialogue between young artists and the most significant places and works in the history of art in our nation through the participation of broadminded critics who are likewise competent in the art of talent scouting, and the creation of a network of Italian cities which have a stake in contemporary expressions of art and at the same time show themselves to be not only sensitive to the need to promote and preserve the past but also open to new points of view without dreading their consequences.
The works are inserted into and interact with the most diverse kinds of situations, looking for similarities and contrasts and creating stimulating ideas for the spectators, who are sure to find the creative energy thus released to be infectious. If it were possible to visit all the places that make up the sites of Gemine Muse, the result would be a completely new vision of Italy's immense cultural heritage: a journey through museums, architecture and artworks of the great masters, all knowingly compared and contrasted with the most up-to-date and interesting expressive phenomena.
The prestige of the institutions and private entities involved is a sign of the quality of this initiative, testifying to the desire to look at the present and, without any trepidation, at the future as well.

Di nuovo attraversiamo l'Italia per cercare i fermenti che l'arte giovane semina nelle città grandi e piccole.
Per mostrarla, ammirarla, criticarla, esporla nei più diversi luoghi perché i più diversi contesti trovino linfa vitale e si aprano ad una nuova dimensione per catturare i segni della modernità e aprirsi ad un pubblico curioso. È questa la sfida che Gemine Muse propone ogni anno, senza ansia di risultati, perché la creatività vuole i suoi tempi, i suoi spazi per potersi sviluppare, per potersi concedere a chi ama la bellezza e la sa scoprire nell'arte, lentamente.
I giovani artisti contemporanei sono i protagonisti. Ad essi affidiamo il compito di usare i loro talenti, di dare forma e progetto ai loro sogni per nutrire l'arte contemporanea, per interpretare i cambiamenti, per circondarci di bellezza, per lasciare segni nelle città di oggi. Critici avvertiti, amministratori coraggiosi, dirigenti appassionati rappresentano il contesto entro il quale i giovani artisti trovano lo spazio per le proprie ragioni, per le loro ricerche. Il successo di Gemine Muse, e delle Associazioni che l'hanno promossa, è il successo di un'idea, di un progetto, di una squadra e fonda sull'ambizione di giovani creativi che vivono in meravigliosi contesti architettonici, artistici, ambientali in cui affondano le loro radici e da cui traggono la loro ispirazione. Lievito di quella Italia creativa che, soprattutto in tempi difficili, non si arrende alle difficoltà e trova il piacere e il gusto per affrontare nuove sfide con sguardo lungo e mente aperta.

Once again we travel throughout Italy in search of the ferments that young artists sow in cities large and small.
To put it on display, admire it, criticise it, exhibit it in the most diverse places so that different contexts are infused with vital life force and take on a new dimension, capturing the signs of modernity and opening up to a curious public. This is the challenge launched by Gemine Muse each year, without having to worry about the outcome, because creativity requires its own time and spaces in order to develop, to be able to give itself to those who love beauty and know how to discover it in art, without hurry.
The stars are the young contemporary artists. To them we entrust the task of using their talents, giving shape to and projecting their dreams in order to nourish contemporary art, to interpret the changes, to surround us with beauty, to leave a mark on today's cities. Shrewd critics, courageous administrators and passionate directors create the context in which the young artists find the space for their reflections, their research. The success of Gemine Muse, and of the associations that promote it, is the success of an idea, a project, of a team, and is founded on the ambition of the creative young people who inhabit the marvellous architectural, artistic and environmental contexts that they are rooted in and which provides the source of their inspiration. They are leavened by that creative Italy which, especially in difficult times, never surrenders to difficulty and finds the pleasure and gusto to face new challenges with far-sightedness and an open mind.

Gemine Muse da sette edizioni è un invito al viaggio, un suggerimento a compiere tragitti emozionali e a fruire luoghi storico-geografici in tutta Italia nell'ottica di una mappa che collega epoche, sensibilità, autori diversi.
Per il 2010 le città coinvolte sono 22, più o meno distanti tra loro ma collegate attraverso una rete di temi che svelano luoghi cittadini inediti o resi tali dalla lettura dei giovani artisti. Sono strutture e spazi urbani che fanno parte della storia ma anche della quotidianità e che si trasformano grazie a progetti curatoriali ad hoc. Opere visive, installazioni, suoni, voci, performance di talenti emergenti provenienti da tutto il territorio italiano come in una sola grande esperienza collettiva.
Tentando una (im)possibile sintesi che è un invito all'approfondimento, queste potrebbero essere le linee guida per un itinerario da nord a sud tra le sedi che ospitano i lavori, alcuni dei quali creati appositamente per l'evento.
Il Mao - Museo d'Arte Orientale di Torino si anima con i lavori di tre promesse selezionate da Maria Teresa Roberto per essere Guardiani del Tempo. A Biella, l'esposizione nel restaurato Palazzo Ferrero sede dell'Assessorato alle Politiche Giovanili, è di per sé la risultante di un percorso: incontri e laboratori sul tema La macchina nella storia e nel futuro per cinque artisti presso Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto su progetto di Paolo Naldini. Marco Tagliafierro a Novara segue l'ispirazione di un atlante figurativo, Bilderatlas, per presentare le ricerche di due artiste alla Biblioteca Civica "Carlo Negroni". Pavia offre una immersione in storie, alfabeti, linguaggi attraverso gli interventi d'arte di quattro partecipanti invitati da Francesca Porreca all'interno dei Musei Civici cittadini. Il FAI - Fondo Ambiente Italiano apre la storica Villa Necchi Campiglio di Milano alla collettiva Low Déco con cinque talenti presentati da Alessandro Rabottini. Le vie e le piazze di Cremona svelano storie sulla pubblica piazza suddivise in quattro sezioni artistiche (arti visive, fumetto, musica, scrittura) dal titolo Ti vengo incontro coinvolgendo sette autori, cinque curatori e un giovane storico. A Trento, per la mostra Figure ipotetiche, sette nomi sono stati invitati da Federico Mazzonelli a lavorare all'interno di una serie di negozi del centro storico secondo un tragitto cittadino fatto di interventi di diversa natura e un nucleo centrale presso la sede di UpLoad Art Project. Il progetto diffuso di Padova, In allestimento, crea un ideale itinerario con le installazioni di sette giovani nelle vetrine dei negozi di Borgo Altinate, a cura di Teresa Iannotta. La Biblioteca Comunale Ariostea di Ferrara contiene i Volumi contemporanei di due artisti visivi e una scrittrice che Maria Letizia Paiato e Federica Zabarri di Associazione Yoruba hanno accomunato intorno ai concetti di contemporaneo/antico e di spazio pubblico/privato. La manifestazione Videodrome a Forlì si compone di due distinti momenti: una rassegna di dieci video di altrettanti artisti, giovani ma già affermati, e un concorso per contributi prodotti con il cellulare da giovani dei licei, delle scuole d'arte, delle università con la curatela di Rosalba Paiano e il coordinamento di Francesco Di Tillo. Vincoli è il titolo dell'evento che a Bologna Eléonore Grassi ha curato coinvolgendo cinque nomi emergenti per altrettanti interventi site-specific all'interno del Palazzo dell'Archiginnasio. Il Museo Civico Archeologico Etnologico di Modena diventa invece Il sesto continente in cui si muovono tre protagonisti a cura di Fulvio Chimento e Antonella Malaguti. Genova propone Il mare non ha paese nemmeno lui - una fiaba del Mediterraneo che cinque artisti illustrano e sonorizzano al Museo Luzzati, su invito di Martina Starnini e con la collaborazione di Anselmo Roveda. Trame d'arte / Identità e inganni è il percorso che svela le ricerche di tre giovani artiste che intervengono al Museo del Tessuto di Prato in un progetto a cura di Stefano Pezzato. Alla Pinacoteca Comunale di Ancona Dario Ciferri ha selezionato due nomi per lavorare De Rerum Natura. Con Sogno di una notte di mezz'estate la Pinacoteca Civica di Teramo assume una dimensione fiabesca grazie a una video-perfomance selezionata da Alberto Melarangelo. Roma sceglie una location inedita, il Caffè Letterario del Circuito cittadino delle Biblioteche, declinando il tema L'eroe attraverso diverse forme espressive (pittura, scultura, fumetto, audiovisivi), diciotto artisti individuati attraverso un avviso pubblico su progetto di Massimo Mostacci. Nicola Micatrotta cura Illusioni attraverso l'immaginario di due artisti presenti al Museo Provinciale Sannitico di Campobasso. Palazzo Mincuzzi di Bari, che attualmente ospita una catena di abbigliamento internazionale, si apre alle contaminazioni creative di tre giovani invitati da Antonella Marino: Shops and the City. Con La lingua del mare Messina presenta un dialogo concreto e produttivo che al Forte San Salvatore riunisce otto proposte multidisciplinari sotto la guida di Enrica Carnazza. Il Castello Ursino di Catania offre tre proposte che indagano la contemporaneità e la storia secondo la suggestione Le grandi isole del Mediterraneo: Sicilia - Malta di Antonio D'Amico. A Cagliari dieci giovani sui tre piani del Palazzo di Città, edificio sede del primo Municipio, riflettono sulle diverse anime storiche che esso contiene, muovendosi per Strati urbani coordinati da Alessandra Menesini e dalla Fondazione Bartoli-Felter per l'Arte; nello stesso spazio interagisce anche un collettivo torinese ospite di uno scambio produttivo.
Ecco dunque Gemine Muse: una trama fatta di spazi, un tessuto fatto di percorsi, imbastiti con il filo dell'arte e della contemporaneità.

All seven editions of Gemine Muse have been an invitation to a journey, a suggestion for exciting routes to take and historic geographical sites all over Italy to visit, like a map connecting diverse epochs, feelings, and artists.
The 2010 edition involves 22 cities, some closer to each other, others further away, but all linked by a network of themes that reveal places in the cities that are undiscovered or rendered that way by the interpretations of the young artists. The sites are urban structures and spaces that are part of history but also of day-to-day life, and which are transformed thanks to ad hoc curatorial projects. Works of visual art, installations, sounds, voices, performances by emerging talents coming from all over Italy in a kind of vast group exhibition.
The (im)possible attempt to formulate a synthesis that would serve as an invitation to undertake an in-depth investigation might take the form of a guide for an itinerary from north to south through the sites that host the works, some of which were purposely created for this event.
In Torino the MAO - Museo d'Arte Orientale is animated by the work of three promising artists selected by Maria Teresa Roberto as Guardians of Time. In Biella, the exhibition housed in the restored Palazzo Ferrero, home of that city's Council Department for Youth Policies, is itself the result of an itinerary: encounters and laboratories on the theme The Machine in History and in the Future involved five artists at the Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto in a project curated by Paolo Naldini. In Novara, Marco Tagliafierro was inspired by a figurative atlas entitled Bilderatlas, to present the investigations of two artists in the city's municipal library, Biblioteca Civica "Carlo Negroni". Pavia offers an immersion in histories, alphabets, languages through the works of art by four participants invited by Francesca Porreca inside the city's Civic Museums. The FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano, Italy's National Trust, opens the historic Villa Necchi Campiglio in Milano to the group exhibition Low Déco with five artists presented by Alessandro Rabottini. The streets and piazzas of Cremona reveal stories about the public square, subdivided into four artistic sections (visual art, comics, music and writing) entitled I'll meet you halfway, involving seven artists, five curators and a young historian. For the exhibition Hypothetical figures in Trento, seven artists were invited by Federico Mazzonelli to work in a series of stores in the historic city centre resulting in an itinerary through the city composed of works of various natures and a central nucleus in the headquarters of UpLoad Art Project. The project set up in Padova, In preparation, curated by Teresa Iannotta, creates an ideal itinerary with the installations of seven young artists in the shop windows of some stores in Borgo Altinate. The Biblioteca Comunale Ariostea in Ferrara contains the contemporary Volumes of two visual artists and an author, grouped by Maria Letizia Paiato and Federica Zabarri of the Association Yoruba around the concept of contemporary/antique and public space/private space. The event Videodrome in Forlì is composed of two distinct parts: a collection of ten videos by as many young but already established artists, and a competition for videos produced with cell phones by students in high schools, art schools and universities, curated by Rosalba Paiano and coordinated by Francesco Di Tillo. Constraints is the title of the event curated by Eléonore Grassi in Bologna, which involved five emerging artists in as many site-specific works in the Palazzo dell'Archiginnasio. The Museo Civico Archeologico Etnologico of Modena becomes The Sixth Continent in which the three protagonists operate under the curatorship of Fulvio Chimento and Antonella Malaguti. Genova offers The sea has no country either – a Mediterranean fable which five artists bring to life with images and sound in the Museo Luzzati at the invitation of Martina Starnini, with the collaboration of Anselmo Roveda. Weavings of art / Identities and deceptions is the pathway revealed by the investigations of three young artists who work in the Museo del Tessuto in Prato, in a project curated by Stefano Pezzato. In the Pinacoteca Comunale of Ancona, Dario Ciferri has selected two artists to work on the theme regarding Nature, De Rerum Natura. With Midsummer Night's Dream the Pinacoteca Civica in Teramo becomes fable-like, thanks to a video performance selected by Alberto Melarangelo. Rome has selected an undiscovered place, the Caffè Letterario of the city's circuit of libraries, in variations in different keys (painting, sculpture, comics, audio-visual) of the theme The hero, eighteen artists selected as a result of a public competition for a project curated by Massimo Mostacci. Nicola Micatrotta is the curator of Illusions through the imagery of two artists shown in the Provincial Sannitic Museum of Campobasso. Palazzo Mincuzzi in Bari, which is currently home to an international clothing chain, is opened up to the creative influence of three young artists invited by Antonella Marino: Shops and the City. With The tongue of the sea, Messina presents a dialogue both concrete and productive, bringing together eight multidisciplinary works in the Forte San Salvatore under the guidance of Enrica Carnazza. The Castello Ursino in Catania offers three works that are investigations of contemporaneity and history suggested by Antonio D'Amico: The Great Islands of the Mediterranean: Sicily - Malta. In Cagliari ten young artists working in the three storeys of Palazzo di Città, the building that first housed the city offices, reflect on the various historic souls that it contains, moving through Urban layers, coordinated by Alessadro Menesini and the Foundazone Bartoli-Felter per l'Arte; a collective from Torino, brought in to exchange experiences, also interacts in the same space.
This then is Gemine Muse: a thick weave of spaces, a fabric of pathways, basted together with the threads of art and contemporaneity.
