Al piano terra del Palazzo Arcivescovile è allestito il Museo del Tesoro del Duomo, nei locali cinquecenteschi restaurati, con decorazione a fresco alle pareti e soffitti lignei a cassettone ristrutturati, che contornano i due cortili interni dell’Episcopio. Sono esposti gli oggetti del Tesoro del Duomo disposti secondo una successione storica studiata in modo da coniugare lo sviluppo artistico con la storia della diocesi e con l’evangelizzazione del territorio vercellese voluta da Eusebio, primo Vescovo della città e del Piemonte. Nelle sale sono esposte opere di oreficeria dal VII al XVIII secolo, il Vercelli Book e altri codici pregevoli della Biblioteca Capitolare, i reperti del grande Crocifisso della Cattedrale, reliquiari e arredi liturgici.

The Museo del Tesoro del Duomo (Cathedral Treasure Museum) is located at the ground floor of the Archbishop Palace, in restored rooms of the 16th century with in fresco decorations of the walls and refurbished wooden caisson ceilings which surround the two internal yards of the bishop’s residence. It exhibits the objects of the Cathedral Treasure in a historical sequence which has been studied in order to conjugate the artistic development to the history of the diocese and of the evangelization of the Vercelli territory, wished by Eusebio, the first bishop of the town and of the Piedmont Region. The halls expose goldsmithery works which range from the 7th to the 17th centuries, the Vercelli Book and other valuable manuscripts of the Capitulary Library, the finds of the great Crucified of the Cathedral, feretories as well as church vestments and ornaments.

Composta secondo il gusto delle grandi ancone cinquecentesche, questa pace, dono del vescovo Agostino Ferrero (1511-1536) alla Chiesa vercellese, è opera di pregevole valore artistico per la ricchezza e la varietà dei motivi decorativi. Al centro è raffigurato a rilievo Gesù deposto dalla croce con intorno la Madonna, S. Giovanni, la Maddalena, una pia donna, Nicodemo e Giuseppe d’Arimatea. Sullo sfondo il monte Calvario si staglia sullo smalto blu del cielo.

Composed according to the taste of the large icons of the 16th century, this peace – a gift of Bishop Agostino Ferrero (1511-1536) to the Church of Vercelli – is a work of great artistic value because of the richness and variety of the decorative motives. The center relief represents Jesus lowered from the cross and surrounded by Virgin Mary, St. John, Magdalene, a pious woman, Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimatea. On the background, the Calvary is silhouetted on the blue enamel of the sky.

Dal Buio alla Luce
Nulla meglio del suono per completare l’atmosfera rarefatta e silente del Museo del Tesoro del Duomo di Vercelli che custodisce, tra le altre meraviglie, l’argenteo Cristo della Resurrezione e il suo interno in cocciopesto e legno, e la Pace con Deposizione, ispiratrici di Erbarme dich, mein Gott di Luigi Attademo.
Dal Buio alla Luce: morte, disperazione ed incredibile rinascita evocate da un linguaggio musicale non convenzionale che si nutre dapprima di vibrazioni e percezioni quasi primordiali per arrivare, nel finale, alla superba, leggera purezza acustica. Volutamente riconoscibili i frammenti melodici tratti dalla Passione secondo Matteo di Bach in un’opera d’arte contemporanea tanto impalpabile quanto essenziale, libera dai limiti delle regole e pronta a misurarsi con l’idea di infinito.

Nothing is better than sound to complete the rarefied silent atmosphere of Vercelli’s Museo del Tesoro del Duomo, which keeps, amongst other wonders, the silver Cristo della Resurrezione (Resurrecting Christ), whose interior is in earthware and wood and la Pace con Deposizione (Peace with Lowering), which inspired Erbarme dich, mein Gott by Luigi Attademo.
From Darkness to Light: death, despair and incredible rebirth evoked by a non-conventional musical language, which is first nourished by almost primeval vibrations and perceptions to reach the superb, light acoustic purity in the ending. The fragments of Bach’s Passion According to Saint Matthew are deliberately recognizable in a contemporary artwork which is as impalpable as essential, free from the limits of the rules and ready to challenge the idea of infinity.
