Born in Foggia (Italia) begins his studies in the conservatory “Luigi Cherubini” of Florence, in “Music and New Technologies” department , where he graduated with honours with a thesis in which designs, builds and uses for musical purposes an electromagnetic transducer that allows you to use any surface as a speaker. This experience leads him on musical experimentation, both in technical and compositional terms: during his Master of MNT (Florence), where he graduated cum laude, realized a thesis project that sees the design and construction of an interactive installation where users “play” with the environment created by 512 light sources and six audio channels being modified both by author and users selections.Deepening interdisciplinary studies, he attended a Master in “Interaction Design” in Lugano, where he studied the new possibilities of interaction applied to art, music and performance. The study supports a constant research and personal production, self-study of piano, guitar, clarinet and some self-made instruments, which lead to the creation of compositions, performances and installations. The aesthetic studies are followed by the researches on new media and ways to express leading to electronics and programming studies. He participates in the Florence event dedicated to John Cage, presenting an interpretation of Cage's work “Cartridge music”, for theremin and live electronics; for this work he develops a program to follow the gestures on theremin to make it control sound parameters on different sound scapes. His transducer technology has been used by the composer Daniele Lombardi for a piano composition, in which the sounds of piano are amplified and distorted by metal sheets; this work has been presented in Rome for the exhibition of the artist Roberto Ciaccio. He presents a performance in collaboration with the performers Luca Divolo and Tancredi, and the programmer Luigi Chelli using instruments, live electronics, electronic music, structures and lights. He realize and play in a performance, in collaboration with flameEnsable, for three musicians (piano, sax, guitar) with live electronics and live managements of light sources inside two expressly created structures, creating audio and light effects on stage. With the project “immerso controluce”, he works in Mexico D.F. and Florence, presenting a concert for guitar and electronics, played inside his installation “inner waving”. This installation is presented in Stockholm for STOFF 2013, and another performance, “shared”, is created inside of it, for clarinet and electronics, played and programmed by the author, with the use of wireless controls and microphone on the instrument.Francesco Pellegrino directs his works mainly on the fusion of musical and visual perception, and realizes installations, performances and researches on new technological and aesthetic ways of doing art. One of the last aesthetic goal is to translate the digital and virtual world inside the real plane of perception, trying to use the digital and programming possibilities without screens or projection or loudspeakers, but searching back to a “re-humanized” fruition.
